Initial Research
1. Independent valuation (various websites offer this)
2. Is there a history or register of stolen vehicles/bikes in your area?
       What information is required to check this bike:
       • registration Number
       • VIN/Chassis Number
       • engine Number

Telephone Questions
1. Name
2. Address
3. Mileage
4. Color
5. Registration renewal due when (registration should be in seller's name)
6. Extras:
     • Frame Sliders?
     • Sports Exhaust?
     • Rack?
     • Windshield?
     • Problems?
     • Damage?
     • Other Accessories?
     • History including service?
     • Reason for Selling? 
     • Raced/Track Days?
     • Finance owing?

Initial Inspection (take a torch)
1. General Appearance - dints, scratches, color mismatch
2. Tires
3. Verify if Raced or at least ridden hard:
     • wired sump plug
     • scraped exhaust, belly pan or pegs?

4. Cared For:
     • rounded or mismatched (eg non metric) bolts
     • corrosion, rust or weather damage

5. Chain/sprocket wear & tension
6. Brake discs & pads
7. Engine oil:
     • color
     • level
     • leaks

8. Front fork seals & boots - leaking
9. Suspension - bounce front & back (should be smooth & progressive)
10. Steering head:
     • flat spots while turning
     • endplay
     • front to back free play
11. Wheel bearings & swing Arm (check for free-play)
12. Wear matches mileage - keys, pegs, handle bar weights, suspension, noises, tank paint
13. Remove covers - any damage or repairs, chassis bent or welded up (use the torch)
14. Everything works - eg tail lights, cooling fan, instruments15. Check if engine warm or cold before starting (listen for rattles, especially if already warm)
16. Engine noisy or blowing smoke
17. Pillion comfort and safety (seat & grab rails)


Test Ride
1. Choose a challenging route to check handling etc
2. Clutch slips or jump out of gear 
3. Performance
4. Ride with no hands - death wobble 
5. Ride Comfort / Seating Position
     • Wrists & hands
     • Neck
     • Legs (Pegs)
     • Seat
     • Windshield (wind blast)
     • Adjustable Levers & Pegs


Post Ride 
1. Check accessories & ask about the originals eg: 
     • tool kit
     • manual
     • seat cowl
     • muffler
     • panniers
     • windshield
     • race stand
     • rack
     • bags

2. Who does the servicing?
3. What needs doing to it?
4. Confirm that the registration and VIN numbers given previously match this bike. 
5. Confirm that the seller has ID (Photo Licence) to match the registration papers. 
6. Registration in seller's name

Purchase 
1. Collect all accessories & originals equipment.

2. Get all - registration papers, receipts & spare keys
